Production/ Factory Manager

Industry: Motor Vehicle Assembly
Location: Nairobi
Salary: Competitive & Negotiable
Reporting to: CEO
Our client is looking for a Production Engineer at its office located in Nairobi. As a result of growth and diversification of their activities they are looking for a production engineering manager with factory management expertise and experience.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • To provide strategic input with respect to production and assembly
  • Dares to come up with the unconventional solution
  • Can plan production and assembly setup and manage potential for growth
  • Production engineering and efficiency management (e.g. LEAN)
  • Capability to innovate company procedures and possess persistence required to implement
  • Contribute to component production, and sourcing of OEM parts in Kenya
  • Develop and manage training program for local staff.
  • Formulate strategy for Eastern African expansion of production/assembly (mid-long term)
  • Supervise, monitor and improve production/assembly efficiency of increasing number of lines
  • Proactively communicate with product development team to align product and production design
  • Develop production/assembly setup strategy for Kenya
Qualification & Skills
  • Bachelor in Mechanical engineering
  • Relevant Professional qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Management, Engineering is an added advantage
  • Min 10 years of relevant experience
  • 7 years of professional production engineering and efficiency management (e.g. LEAN) Experience, mainly within the automotive industry, of which at least 5 years at the strategic management level
  • Professional international experience within the automotive industry, in Europe, Asia or Africa
  • Has extensive production related professional network within the automotive industry in Kenya and East Africa
  • Experience of carrying professional responsibility for, or contributing to, at least 1 successful assembly line within the automotive industry
  • Solid and up to date knowledge of strategic production engineering and efficiency improvement, within the automotive industry
  • Integrity is an inherent quality
  • Respect confidentiality and treat it with great care
  • Capable of setting the right priorities and choosing new directions
  • Has a no nonsense approach to work, is decisive and gets things done
Good problem solving skills
  • Good reporting skills
  • Strong strategic planning skills & Accuracy
  • Entrepreneurial, enthusiastic, motivated, independent, proactive, professionally creative, alert, hard working, hands-on, sets high standards for self, overall positive attitude in life
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Additionally good Swahili
