Kisumu Local Interaction Platform (KLIP) Coordinator Job in Kenya

Vacancy: Coordinator for the Kisumu Local Interaction Platform (KLIP)
The main goal of Kisumu Local Interaction Platform (KLIP), supported by MISTRA URBAN FUTURES (M-UF), is cogeneration, practical application and dissemination of knowledge for the purposes of sustainable urban development.
To achieve this, KLIP brings together the academia, private sector, industry and public sector in knowledge production, management, application and uptake.
The current key stakeholders include City of Kisumu, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Maseno University, the Private Sector and Civil Society. KLIP has received funding from Mistra Urban Futures of Chalmers University of Technology towards carrying out programme activities, namely: Ecotourism and Market Places within Kisumu City and its environs.
The programme is expected to provide a framework for sustainable urban development.
KLIP would like, under Mistra Urban Futures Centre, to operationalise and integrate these activities into the overall KLIP mandate and goals.
It is on the basis of the foregoing that KLIP wishes to recruit a dependable, dynamic, result oriented, team player and energetic person for the position of the Coordinator in the KLIP-MUF Programme.
 
The responsibilities of the KLIP Coordinator will include, but are not limited to:
·         Overseeing the operations of KLIP Secretariat including office management, coordination of meetings and functions
·         Preparing research concept notes for evaluation and peer review
·         Processing research proposals accepted for funding
·         Administering the research projects
·         Making use of the most available technology and social networks to innovate around sustainable urban development
·         Adding to the existing knowledge of sustainable urban development in a collaborative way
·         Creating a vehicle for systematically organising contributions on sustainable urban development and linking knowledge generators, creators and the respective knowledge consumers.
·         Implementing the projects under the guidance of Director KLIP
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants should have the following minimum prerequisites:
·         Masters degree in Project Planning and Management or related field, with wide knowledge and experience in urban matters, governance, socio-economic development, natural resource management, food security, climate change management, and communication.
·         At least five year’s experience in similar position or assignment.
·         Knowledge in project proposals development and fund raising.
·         Ability in establishing and sustaining networks
This will be on a one-year contract, renewable on mutual agreement and on the basis of availability of funding.
The successful candidate will be paid a competitive and an attractive consolidated salary package.

The Deputy Principal (Administration, Finance, Planning and Development)

The Deputy Principal shall report to the Principal and shall be the Head of Administration, Finance, Planning and Development and will ensure these functions evolve into pillars of excellence within the University College.
Qualifications and experience
The applicant should;
  • Be a Professor or Associate Professor with at least eight (8) years experience in senior management (Dean, Director and above) position in a University;
  • Be outstanding and internationally recognized scholar as evidenced by publications and referee journal (at least ten in the last five years) or university level book chapters and books.
  • Demonstrate the ability to attract project grants/ awards;

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deputy Principal Administration, Finance, Planning and Development in consultation with Principal shall:
  • Be responsible to the Principal and the Council.
  • Provide leadership in administration, finance, Planning and development.
  • Provide leadership and direction in the management of University College resources including human, physical, financial and information resources;
  • Coordinate the preparation of Statutory financial statements and other management reports;
  • Advice the Principal and the Management Board on financial status of the University College;
  • Make proposals for development of policies on human resource, administrative, finance and development matters;
  • Manage the budgeting process of the University College;
  • Coordinate and oversee the procurement process;
  • Oversee projects and prepare periodic status reports;
  • Submit reports on implementation of procurement processes to the Principal;
  • Conduct periodic review of academic and administration staff establishments and submit reports to the Principal;
  • Periodically submit reports on the status of central services;
  • Prepare and submit relevant and Statutory reports on the division to the Principal;
  • Perform such other functions and responsibilities assigned by the Principal and University Council as may be necessary and in the interests of the University College as per its rules and regulations;

The above post carries a competitive remuneration package which includes basic salary, house allowance, and medical cover as per the University College’s medical scheme, leave allowance, official transport and gratuity at the end of the contract period as per University College provisions.
