JKUAT-SRISTI-USAID Project: Transfer of Indian Farm and Food Processing Machinery Technology to Promote Food Security in Kenya

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is collaborating with Society for Research and Initiatives for Sustainable Technologies and Institutions (SRISTI-India) with the support of USAID-India to enhance investment in agricultural mechanization to enable farmers intensify production and improve their quality of life as well as contributing to national food security.

The proposed project directly supports the global food and nutritional security as part of U.S. Government’s “Feed the Future initiative”

The project will enhance the small holder farmers’ access to technology and capacity building, producers’ groups and entrepreneurs in production, marketing, application and management of proposed technologies and foster enabling environment to ensure sustainability.

The program also supports USAID/India’s objective of sharing Indian agriculture innovations that address constraints to agriculture sector productivity and enhance climate resilience, fostering enabling environment, expand markets and trade.

The overall goal of the project is to “To improve agricultural productivity and food security in Africa by fostering agriculture mechanization among the small-holder farmers using Indian grass-root innovations.” Kenya is one of the selected countries in Africa to pilot the project.

Specific project objectives include the following:

1. Promote the use of machinery in agriculture to reduce dependency on manual labor and draft animal power for increasing agricultural productivity;

2. Foster a conducive environment for adoption of Indian innovation in agriculture mechanization in Kenya;

3. Promote learning and exchange of Indian experience and best practices to support food security in Kenya

The project invites applications from suitable candidates to fill the following positions:

1. Project Manager

(1 Post)

Duties and responsibilities

·                     The Project Manager who will report to the Director, Nairobi Industrial and Technology Park will be expected to:

·                     Execute the project implementation plan in consultation with the JKUAT project Engineer to ensure that all activities are completed in a time bound manner.

·                     Co-ordinate with SRISTI Project Manager to ensure the smooth functioning of the project.

·                     Procurement of project supplies as per USAID regulations and JKUAT guidelines in liaison with JKUAT Chief Procurement Officer.

·                     Will be responsible for maintaining proper project accounts and submitting the same to accounts and grant administrator (SRISTI).

·                     Plan and execute the capacity building; workshops; field work and dissemination programs of the project in consultation with JKUAT and SRISTI Engineers.

·                     Guide and supervise project staff

·                     Produce quarterly and annual project progress reports

·                     The Project Manager will be in the field for the implementation of the project work at least 1 5 days in month.

Qualifications

·                     Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering.

·                     Three (3) years work experience in agricultural mechanization or related fields.

·                     ICT compliant.

·                     Have ability to conduct independent research.

·                     Good interpersonal and communication skills.

·                     Reasonable knowledge in financial management and project management.

2. Project Assistant

(2 Posts)

Duties and responsibilities

The Project Assistants will report to the Project Manager and will be expected to:

·                     Assist the project manager in each activity of the project.

·                     Will be responsible for field mobilization, demonstrations, keeping contacts with field collaborators and clients, data collection and feedback information.

·                     Provide monthly report on field implementation activities to project manager.

·                     Will be in the field at least for 20 days in a month.

Qualifications

·                     Diploma in Agriculture/Agricultural Engineering.

·                     Two (2) years work experience ¡n agricultural production or related fields.

·                     ICT compliant.

·                     Have ability to conduct research.

·                     Good interpersonal and communication skills.

·                     Reasonable knowledge in financial management and project management.

·                     Have ability to disseminate information.

3. Field Officers

(2 Posts)

Duties and responsibilities

·                     Reporting to the Project Assistant

·                     Responsible for field activities pertaining to the project including community mobilization and demonstrations, data collection and feedback information

·                     Provide weekly report to project assistant.

·                     Will be posted at selected grassroots in the target regions.

Qualifications

·                     Certificate in Agriculture/Agricultural Engineering.

·                     Two (2) years work experience in agricultural production or related fields.

·                     ICT compliant.

·                     Have ability to conduct research.

·                     Good interpersonal and communication skills.

Profile Sought - Education

• Masters degree preferably in social sciences, international relations and/or development or other relevant discipline

Experience

• At least 1 year of related work experience, preferably for an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) at headquarter or on the field in Programme departments;

2. Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist Jobs
CHAMP-Cameroon is a five-year project for a total cost estimate of $18.8 million. CHAMP will achieve the 3 following main, and interconnected, results:

Technical competence of partners in key populations program design and management using CoPCT is increased;

Enabling environment for key populations HIV/AIDS programming is strengthened;

Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement, Monitoring and Evaluation systems in CoPCT is strengthened.

The project, built on current USAID support in Cameroon, aims to increase access and use of quality HIV prevention care and support services for key populations.
These efforts will expand service coverage in the country from five to ten regions, and generate data for evidence-based programming.
The project will use a continuum of care approach to service provision, and will link clients with community-and facility-based interventions.
It will also strengthen the capacity of existing health systems including the policy environment and networks for a well-coordinated response.
It is anticipated that at least 140,000 beneficiaries including 16,000 MSM, 66,000 CSW and 58,000 other clients will be reached with quality HIV prevention, care and support services over the five years.
The successful candidate will be responsible for oversight of all M&E components project.
The M&E Specialist will be responsible of the development and oversight of the PMP, annual work plans (including targets), quarterly reports, and annual reports.
The M&E Specialist will also play a large role in assisting the capacity building efforts of the applicant to develop, standardize, and utilize standardized data collection and reporting forms for key populations in Cameroon.
Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Public Health, Development, or related degree required

Demonstrated experience managing USAID projects

Significant experience in service delivery for key populations and sensitivity to implementation of programs that serve key populations

At least 10 years of experience in M&E, ideally in francophone West and Central Africa

Experience in basic M&E concepts including indicator development, tool development, reporting systems strengthening, and data quality assessments

Experience in building capacity in M&E

3. Jobs for Local Capacity Development Experts
The Local Capacity Development Expert (LCDE) will be responsible for managing capacity building at various levels within the program. The LCDE should have experience in any of CARE’s regions including the following: Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Asia.
The LCDE will perform capacity building support CSOs, associations and or coalitions to in the following areas:

Civil Society Strengthening

Strengthen overall organizational capacity of local NGOs

Strengthen capacity of local NGOs to receive direct funding from USG

Strengthen technical capacity local NGO & CBOs in specific sectors

Bring together existing models, tools, and best practices for monitoring and strengthening local organizations from current CARE programs.

Work with technical advisors to create models for capacity building in priority technical areas.
Qualifications Include:

Advanced degree (graduate level: doctorate, master’s, etc.) in a relevant field (business, management, etc.)

Experience in the capacity development of local institutions using state of the art practice, and ability to demonstrate the sustainability of those institutions as a result of capacity development efforts.

Past experience working in SME development and experience integrating at-risk and marginalized groups (including women and youth) into private sector development initiatives is highly desirable.

Spoken and written fluency in English and another language such as (French, Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, etc...) with working ability in both languages.

Proven ability to conduct training needs assessments and apply other methods to assess gaps in institutional capacity.

Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
