About OSIEA:
The Open Society Initiative
for Eastern Africa OSIEA's particular focus will be on pastoralism, land tenure
governance, food systems and market access, governance and anti-corruption
climate change and a fair investment framework. The Open Society Initiative for
Eastern Africa promotes vibrant, tolerant democracies in the region by awarding
grants, developing programs, and bringing together diverse civil society
leaders and groups.
Key Duties &
Responsibilities:
- Provide a bold and strategic vision for innovative
grant-making and program development by adding value to existing food
security efforts within the organization and the region
- Manage the food security grant-making and advocacy
portfolio and identify strategies to advance focus areas
- Incorporate institution building and technical
capacity development of grantee organizations into programming work
- Conduct relevant legal and policy analysis on food
security in the region for internal and external audiences
- Conduct advocacy in collaboration with grantees and
constituents targeting governments, donor agencies, service providers,
and the general public
- Supervise any administrative duties connected
with the program and manage consultants working on food security
- Coordinate and provide direction to other OSF
programs regarding their interventions to maximize results and
impact
- Perform any other duties and responsibilities as
assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and
Experience:
- The prospective employee should exhibit commitment
to the protection of human rights in the East African region.
- Prior experience in food security and familiarity
with civil society networks in the region required.
- Excellent oral and written English communications
skills as well as analytical skills to review laws and policies.
- Extraordinary initiative, creativity and capacity to
think strategically
- Possess the ability to communicate dearly and
effectively with a diverse array of people
- High team spirit and respectful working and
decision-making style
- Ability to manage multiple liaisons within OSIEA and
the larger Open Society Foundations network in a fast paced environment
- Excellent organizational skills and close attention
to detail
- High degree of Integrity, diplomatic manner and
professional discretion essential
- Possess willingness to travel as needed.
