Journalism Trainer-Rwanda Job

IWPR (Institute for War & Peace Reporting) Rwanda
Journalism Trainer
Under the supervision of the IWPR Senior Editor, provide professional-level training, mentoring and editing services for partner media house journalists and independent journalists on a regular basis. In addition, the trainer will be expected to work with Rwandan journalists to produce features and content for local media outlets.
Specific responsibilities include:
Ÿ   Working one-on-one with journalists on:
Ÿ   Developing feature ideas,
Ÿ   Identifying interviewees,
Ÿ   Developing fair and balanced story structures,
Ÿ   Fact-checking, and
Ÿ   Ensuring reporting conforms to international reporting standards and Republic of Rwanda laws.
Ÿ   Co-delivering professional level curricula on basic Journalism, international Journalism standards and ethics, and the new Rwanda media laws
Ÿ   Co-training in how to use recorders, still cameras, and editing software;
Ÿ   Supporting the maintenance and improvement of editorial values and quality of all training.
Minimum Qualifications
Ÿ   Minimum 5 years of experience working as a journalist
Ÿ   Experience training journalists - citizen and/or professional
Ÿ   Demonstrated excellent communication skills
Ÿ   Excellent speaking, writing, and editing skills in Kinyarwanda
Ÿ   Very good speaking and writing skills in English
Ÿ   Demonstrated excellent decision making skills
Ÿ   Demonstrated ability to work in a team
Ÿ   Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
Ÿ   Excellent editing skills in Adobe Audition
Desired Qualifications
Ÿ   Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism, or Social Sciences
Ÿ   Women encouraged to apply
