AIC Kijabe Hospital


AIC Kijabe Hospital is a leading Christian faith based level 5 hospital in Kenya. Applicants must be born again Christians.
Assistant Maternal Newborn Community Health Program Officer.
Purpose: To give glory to God by assisting the MNCH team in developing best practices to achieve Kenya’s Millennium Development Goals 4&5 promoting maternal and newborn health.
Duties and Responsibilities: (approximately 85% of time will be spent in program planning and delivery; 10% in monitoring and evaluation; 5% in resource mobilization)
  • Participate in community mobilization and education regarding newborn and maternal health, identifying the causes of morbidity and mortality and prevention, as well as developing linkages with communities and the health delivery system.  This task will include organizing and leading seminars, small-groups, and large meetings, mostly in community settings, composed of local leaders, government officials, pastors and church members, and the community at large. Able to assemble resources for team and motivate theses teams to perform appointed tasks. Able to train health care professionals as well as lay volunteers.
  •  Identify and train community health facilitators and healthcare professionals, utilizing the MCNH mentored model, to assist in the provision of community education on maternal and newborn health, home-based visits, develop capacity for the community to advocate for their own needs, instruct in developing methods and systems for appropriate referrals. It will frequently be necessary to travel via hospital vehicle, private conveyance, and matatus. As the training of other health care professionals increases additional overnight travel to observe them on site to give feedback may be required.
  •  Develop linkages with multiple levels of the District Health Services Team including both government and faith-based providers, National Health Insurance Fund, Voucher programs, and other options designed to decrease barriers to access to care.
  • Manage financial, human, and physical resources of the MCNH program with excellence including adherence to donor specifications and Kijabe Hospital procedures for accurate financial accounting and reporting.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships within Kijabe Hospital to facilitate good communication and adhere to the applicable standards. As needed represent the Newborn Community Health Project at hospital and other stakeholder meetings.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Create, maintain & constantly look to improve project processes
  • Provide detailed explanations through reports of project processes
  • Present work to stakeholders at milestones throughout the project
  • Ensure Stakeholders’ expectations are exceedingly met in terms of quality of product and service delivered
  • Work with team to develop and deliver health survey assessments for planning and potential research purposes.
Train volunteers and health care professionals in data collection and reporting procedures.
  • Routine data entry and management including tracking project processes and outcomes.
  • Resource Mobilization
  • Take part/ participation in proposal development with other program staff including budgeting and all aspects of program planning.
  • Actively identify resources from both inside Kenya and outside Kenya and explore new avenues to achieve the goals of the project.
  • Any other duties necessary in order to enhance the operation of the project.
  • Be a witness in evangelizing and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ to the community.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:
  • Desire to see effective education and care delivered to men, women and children.
  • KRCHN with two years experience in hospital or community nursing and Certificate in Maternal Newborn Health preferred or Bachelors Degree in Community Health or equivalent degree with community experience.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint)
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated community involvement, especially as related to maternal newborn care.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well in community setting.
  • Strong interest in evangelism as a component of community health work.
