Economist Jobs in Kenya
The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) is a State Corporation established under the Energy Act 2006.;
The Commission is mandated as the energy sector regulatory agency responsible for economic and technical regulation of Electric Power, Renewable Energy and Downstream Petroleum sub-sectors.;
To achieve this mandate the Commission is seeking to recruit suitably qualified, experienced, result oriented and highly motivated individuals to fill the following position:
Economist, Electricity
(ERC/EE/02.09 Job Grade 7)
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Economic Regulation, the position holder will obtain and analyze economic data; and evaluate the impact of energy policies and regulations.
Key responsibilities
  • Assist in the design and review of electricity tariffs and tariff structures;
  • Participate in the preparation of the Least Cost Power Development Plan;
  • Participate in the review and updating of renewable energy projects;
  • Assist in the computation of petroleum pump prices and petroleum price surveillance;
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of the sub-sector utilities; and
  • Undertake research and policy analysis and prepare position papers and reports.
Qualification, Experience and skills
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Econometrics, Energy Economics or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • A Master’s degree in Energy Economics, Economics, Econometrics or equivalent.
  • At least five (5) years relevant experience.
  • Good understanding of the energy sector and particularly electric power subsector.
  • Excellent analytical, report writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven competency in computer literacy.
