Photography Consultancy for Ni Nyampinga Magazine

 BACKGROUND

Ni Nyampinga (she is the beautiful girl inside and out, who makes good decisions) is Rwanda’s first youth brand, aimed at inspiring and enabling Rwandan girls to be future leaders. The brand is dynamic, aspirational, dignified, and optimistic and embraces the values and richness of Rwandese culture.

Launched by Girl Hub Rwanda in 2011, Ni Nyampinga currently consists of a quarterly magazine and weekly radio show that is by girls for girls and reaches a national audience. The content is designed to inspire and instill self-belief as well as provide practical and enabling information that be can used everyday in girl’s lives

PURPOSE

We have launched 8 issues of Ni Nyampinga to date and about to launch issue 9 and we are committed to driving creative excellence and high production value in all we do. We see Ni Nyampinga as being at the forefront of building the creative industries in Rwanda, and need a photographer for issue 10 who will contribute in delivering, inspirational, authentic and iconic visual storytelling, both in his/her own work and the work developed by others contributing to the magazine.

DELIVERABLES

• Working with Girl Hub Rwanda Brand team, creative partners and girl contributors you will be responsible for developing a plan for and delivery of photographic content for issue 10. (in alignment with the Creative and Editorial strategy)
• Mentorship of girl photographers for approximately 30% of the shoots - design capacity building / learning opportunities into your work process.
• Deliver iconic photos that capture the spirit and theme of issue 10.
• Ensure all magazine photographic content is inline with brand guidelines and NN content strategy
• Pre / post production and editing of photography – to high standard.
• Prepare and present a report to Girl Hub of activities during the project time frame
• All photography content collected during this period for Ni Nyampinga will belong to Girl Hub Rwanda as relates to usage and rights stipulated in the NF contract.

Additional Requirements.

-    Photographer should have his/her own photography equipment. (Girl hub will supply girl photographers with cameras and basic equipment).

-  Important you are comfortable with a team of girl reporters and spending lots of time in the field. You will be expected to integrate into Girl Hub’s culture and add value to Ni Nyampinga wherever you can; an amazing experience for someone with an appetite for new cultural experiences.

-   Go through the Girl Hub Child protection policy training.

-   Female photographers are highly encouraged- although not necessarily an absolute, previous experience has shown that girl subjects are less intimidated by a female photographer behind the lens

Keys Timings

Provide: Portfolio & budget proposal

-   Resume and a 500 words application letter explaining why you would be perfect for the role.

-  A written case study of a project you have worked on with accompanying resulting photographs which you think best demonstrate your skills as a reportage photographer.

January 20h-22th –Interviews with GHR Brand team/creative partners

January 23d- Photographer selected

February 6th – Pre briefing by Brand team

February 11th – Work commences in Rwanda

February 27th – Work concludes
