High School Teaching Jobs in Kenya


Scope of Responsibilities:
The teacher’s primary responsibility is to ensure the success of each student as detailed in the ISK mission, vision and student aims.
Teaching responsibility normally includes general high school Biology, as well as IB Biology at standard and higher levels.
Assignment may also include Grade 9 Integrated Science or any other course that may be reasonably assigned (e.g., Earth Science, Theory of Knowledge, Scholarly Research and Writing).
Additionally the teacher will be expected to participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees, fulfil supervision duties as assigned including some evening and weekend events, serve as advisor to a small group of students, advise students on their Extended Essays or other projects, and supervise/coach one co-curricular activity in the course of the year.
All teachers are expected to contribute to the co-curricular program.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Work as a collaborative member of the high school Science Department.
  • Implement a program of study that adheres to the high school curriculum, IB or otherwise, as adopted by the Board of Directors.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in bringing the ISK Educational Aims to life.
  • Differentiate instruction to address preferred learning styles of various students in class.
  • Integrate technology within lessons to enhance instructional delivery.
  • Understand the school assessment philosophy and conduct ongoing assessment of student progress, using data obtained to adjust instructional content and techniques accordingly.
  • Be available to assist students outside of class time.
  • Communicate regularly with parents through e-mail, telephone and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Maintain professional competence in instructional techniques and in specialized teaching through in-service education activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Evaluate and respond to pupils’ academic, social, emotional and physical growth.
  • Keep appropriate, up-to-date records, and prepare progress reports as needed.
  • Attend relevant departmental, divisional and K-12 professional meetings as necessary.
  • Participate on faculty committees and curriculum development programs as required.
  • Promote a positive learning environment, including maintaining high standards for habits of learning.
  • Supervise a student advisory group, including supporting students with their CAS/L programs.
  • Participate in and, if appropriate, supervise an intercultural trip.
  • Sponsor a minimum of one extra-curricular student activity.
  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the Principal. Required Qualifications, Skills and Qualities:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject(s)
  • Recent, up-to-date IB training in relevant subject area
  • Student-centered and nurturing personality
  • Commitment to collaborative planning
  • Teacher certification from an accredited university/college
  • Minimum 2 years relevant teaching experience
  • Proficiency with educational technology
  • Fluent English speaker with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Flexibility and creativity
    Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Qualities:
  • Master’s Degree
  • Teaching experience in a multi-cultural setting
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in specific IB subject area
  • Experience with the Understanding by Design curriculum model (inquiry-based approach)
  • Experience with interactive technology (e.g., SmartBoard), Virtual Learning Environment programs (e.g., Moodle) and electronic grade books
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary instruction
  • Experience in data analysis and team goal setting to improve learning
