Vi Agroforestry is a
non-profit organization and has no party-political or religious affiliations.
In Sweden, Vi Agroforestry is registered as a foundation under the name Vi
Planterar trad. The offices in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda are branch
offices and registered in the respective country under the name Vi
Agroforestry. Vi Agroforestry works with small-scale farmers and tree planting
in LakeVictoria's basin in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.
Since 2012, Vi
Agroforestry also participates in a new project in Malawi.
Vi Agroforestry seeks to hire two qualified dedicated and
experienced nationals for the positions of Human Resource Officer and Farm
Enterprise Development Officer.These positions are based at the
branch office in Kigali.
Human Resource Officer
Description of responsibilities
Responsible for all
personnel issues within the project and also ensuring that policies regarding
human resources are implemented resulting to staff motivation hence optimal
performance. The human resource officer reports to the Head of Administration
and Finance.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to the Vi
Agroforestry operating procedures.
- Maintain project files and
records both manually and on computer (safe and systematically).
- Write/receive/register all
internal and external correspondences and ensure appropriate
response/action in a proper manner.
- Regulate calls by staff and on
monthly basis report to the country manager with the aim of achieving
efficiency in project communication.
- Compile and circulate project
monthly, quarterly and annual reports to the relevant stakeholders.
- Make sure all the staff are
familiar with the content of the human resource manual
- Represent Vi Agroforestry in
personnel policy meetings and discussions.
- In charge of contacts
with the immigration authority regarding permits for expatriate personnel.
- Inform and brief new employees
about salary payment routines, NSSF, PAYE and other relevant personnel
issues regarding employment with Vi Agroforestry.
- Plan, shape and facilitate
induction of new employees with relevant supervisors.
- Coordinate and supervise staff
appraisal and performance management activities in the project area.
- Make sure that all staffs have
an appropriate and up to date contract of employment and job description.
- Liaising with labour office on
relevant staff issues and liaising with Federation of Employers in the
respective country.
- Receive and record visitors to
the project and give them relevant information in a friendly and welcoming
way.
- Collaborate with the project
manager on staff recruitment.
- Responsible of secretarial
duties such as the switchboard, photocopy machine, printer and scanner
available at the reception desk.
- Preparation of monthly payroll
for national staff and or arranging bank transfer to staff bank accounts
and producing payslips accordingly.
- Coordinate staff welfare issues
and concerns e.g.health and safety, terminal illnesses, team building
exercises etc.
- Ensure that marginalized groups
are given the same opportunities and are encouraged to participate in
activities on equal terms as non marginalised people.
- Maintain good relationships
with the project staff in the different zones and offices.
- Carry out any other duties
assigned by the Head of Administration or Country Manager.
Qualifications
The following knowledge,
skills and abilities may be required through a combination of formal schooling,
self education prior experience or on-job training:
- A University Degree in
administration, human resources, added benefit would be degree in social
sciences and development.
- Must be proficient with English
language and Kinyarwanda. French would be an added advantage.
- Excellent inter-personal
skills, including the demonstration of sensitivity, sound judgment and
discretion when dealing with staff, partners, and all relevant
actors-governmental and non-governmental organizations.
- Dependable and highly organized
with business maturity, discretion, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.
- Should be computer literate in
Microsoft Word, Excel and other software packages.
- Minimum 3 years experience as
human resources professional within an international organization.
Farm Enterprise Development Officer
Description of responsibilities
The Farm Enterprise
Development Officer (FEDO) is part of
the technical support
group and provides guidance to the staff and selected partners/service
providers implementing the Farmer Enterprise Development Component in the
project operational areas. He/she works in close cooperation not only with
other specialists in this group but very much with the Team Leaders and Field
Officers (FO.s) in initiating, identifying, organizing, training and
establishing small-scale agroforestry enterprises. Of specified importanceis to
regularly visit field activities and support and guide Team Leaders and FO:s in
generally securing the Vi Agroforestry priorities and core values of
agroforestry and Sustainable Land Management practices within the whole
programme. The Farm Enterprise Development Officer is also responsible for
implementation of activities focused on financial services by mentoring and
coaching staff of our Rwanda partner organizations in strengthening activities
within Village Saving and Loans Associations (VSLA's) that focus on developing
agroforestry enterprise. He/she may carry out any other duties assigned by the
country manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination of ail the farmer
agro forestry enterprise activities in the project operational areas.
- Coordinate preparation of
monthly, quarterly and annual plans, budgets and reports for the
component.
- Collaborate with other units in
order to get synergetic Effects of the work.
- Access technical advice and
supervision from Heads of Units during planning and implementation of the
component interventions.
- Collaborate with the Human
Resource Officer in competence development of staff and selected
partners/service providers.
- Integration of microfinance
activities into other programme components to provide a critical link in
creating sustainable agricultural production and agroforestry farm
enterprise development.
- Maintain management information
System including data entry and analysis.
- Facilitate and coordinate
implementation of farmer enterprise development and market linkages.
- Work with team leaders through agroforestry
oriented business clusters; develop logically linked comprehensive
processes and operational Systems for the component implementation.
- Monitor component
implementation progress against periodic performance targets and provide
feedback.
- Prepare annual plan and
compilation of results together with Monitoring & Evaluations officer
for the component.
- In collaboration with Head of
Technical Support provide research and educational opportunities related
to farmer entrepreneurship development and documentation of emerging best
practices.
- Ensure adherence to the Vi
Agroforestry policies and operating procedures.
- Coach and mentor Vi
Agroforestry and partner field officers and through Team Leaders to ensure
implementation of the component activities to attain the outputs agreed
upon.
- Update the strategic regional
planning process through development of the business plan, business
development strategy, financial projections/budgets, and performance
analysis; streamline business operations as appropriate for commercial
agroforestry entity
- Ensure that marginalized groups
are given the same opportunities and are encouraged to participate in
activities on equal terms as non marginalized people.
- Carry out any other duties
assigned by the Country Manager.
Qualifications
- Degree in Agribusiness,
Agricultural economies, Rural Development Studies or a related field.
- 3-5 years professional
experience, with at least 3 years experience implementing enterprise
development or agribusiness programs with international NGO.
- Experience working in Rwanda's
key economic sectors involving rural populations, including agroforestry
(combination of crops, livestock and trees), agricultural processing and
energy.
- Practical field experience
working with Savings Groups and cooperatives
- Demonstrated capacity to work
with cooperatives, private sector firms and financial institutions
- Experience with microfinance,
added benefit
- Ability to work effectively
with low income populations.
- Strong report writing,
presentation and Microsoft Office skills
- Excellent English written and
verbal skills. Fluency in Kinyarwanda and French preferred.
- Must be able to read and
interpret documents, and communicate with others in the languages
indicated to perform job duties effectively.
