Scope of Responsibilities:
The teacher’s primary responsibility is to ensure the success of each student as detailed in the ISK Mission, Vision and Student Aims.
Teaching responsibilities may include working with students in resource and inclusion setting.
Additionally the teacher will be expected to participate in a variety of collaborative teams and committees; fulfil supervision duties as assigned, including some evening and weekend events; and contribute to the co-curricular program.
All teachers are expected to contribute to the co-curricular program.
Specific Responsibilities:
Work as a collaborative member of all elementary school areas, using the inclusion model to support students in the mainstream classes.
Implement a program of study that adheres to the course curriculum, as adopted by the Board of Directors.
Collaborate with colleagues in applying the ISK Educational Aims to all aspects of schooling.
Work with the Student Support Services (SSS) Coordinator to insure the implementation of the school-wide program as outlined in the SSS manual.
Develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEP’s) for students based on testing results, teacher input and observations (LRC teachers only).
Provide appropriate support for students through in-class, resource/pull-out, consultation, and monitoring.
Integrate technology within lessons to enhance instructional delivery.
Understand and conduct ongoing assessment of student progress of IEP goals (LRC teachers only), use assessment data to inform planning and instruction, and reflect on instructional techniques accordingly.
Differentiate instruction to address preferred learning styles and the needs and readiness levels of various students in class.
Schedule and chair Student Support Team (SST) meetings.
Be available to assist students outside of class time.
Communicate regularly with parents through e-mail, telephone, SSTs, and parent-teacher conferences.
Attend and participate actively in relevant departmental, divisional and K-12 professional meetings.
Participate on faculty committees and curriculum development programs as required.
Promote a positive learning and teaching environment.
Assume responsibility for meaningful professional growth, including remaining current and informed regarding educational research and best practices.
Participate in and supervise an annual two-four day intercultural trip as necessary.
Sponsore a minimum of one extra-curricular student activity.
Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned by the principal
Required Qualifications, Skills and Qualities:
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject(s) (Special education or ESOL)
Understanding of learning disabilities and behaviour-based disabilities and effective research-based interventions.
Interpret results of educational psychological reports
Student-centered and nurturing personality
Commitment to collaborative planning
Teacher certification in relevant field from an accredited university/college, or state/national program
Minimum 2 years relevant teaching experience
Proficiency with educational technology
Fluent English speaker with excellent writing skills
Flexibility, humility, teachability, and creativity
Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Qualities:
Master’s Degree in relevant field
Understanding of and experience with standards-based curriculum, assessment and reporting
Experience with a backwards planning, "backwards by design," or Understanding by Design planning model
Teaching experience in a multi-cultural setting
Relevant teaching experience in elementary school
Demonstrated success in connecting learning to real–world problems
Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary instruction
Demonstrated success with constructivist teaching methods
Experience in data analysis and goal setting to improve learning
