Adeso Jobs - Kenya: Four Positions


1. Project Assistant Jobs in Kenya
This position is part of the Mobile Non-Formal Education (MNFE) Project, which seeks to enhance access to education for nomadic children aged 13-18 years in Marsabit County who are not currently enrolled in any formal schooling.
The Project Assistant – Education will be responsible for the daily management of the education component of the project, including working with the Community Mobilizers to support 6 Mobile Schools in the field and the associated Community Education Committees (CECs).
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
  • Participate in community sensitization meetings in targeted communities.
  • Assist in recruitment of teachers for the Non-Formal Education Centers (NFECs).
  • Organize pedagogical training for the teachers in the multi-grade system and the Non-Formal Education curriculum.
  • Supervise the teaching activities at the NFECs.
  • Manage the process for selection and training of CEC members.
  • Manage the process of identification of pupils to participate in the project.
  • In collaboration with St. Joseph’s Polytechnic and the Kenya Institute of Education develop a vocational training curriculum for skills training.
  • Supervise the vocational trainees including making regular visits.
  • Oversee the administration of business start-up grants to graduates from the vocational training.
  • Assist the Senior Project Officer with other aspects of project implementation as required.
    Skills and Qualifications
    Essential
  • Relevant Higher Diploma qualification.
  • At least 2 years of relevant project experience.
  • Good understanding of the issues relating to education in pastoralist communities in Kenya.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with community members and colleagues.
  • Ability to analyze information, evaluate options, and think and plan strategically.
  • Excellent networking and representation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Willing to travel regularly within remote areas.
    Desirable
  • Bachelors of Education.
  • Resident of Marsabit County.
  • Skills transfer through training and mentoring.
  • Experience working with mobile pastoralist communities.
  • Donor reporting.

    2. Monitoring & Evaluation Jobs
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage all M&E activities in the MNFE project area.
  • Develop a detailed M&E plan for the MNFE project.
  • Develop standard templates and guidelines for data collection, analysis and reporting.
  • Develop appropriate instruments and tools for assessing education parameters and qualitative indicators.
  • Support the Project Assistant and Community Mobilizers to gather and collate monitoring data and to report on findings from field monitoring activities.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative data analysis and contribute monitoring information to project monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Ensure the gathering and use of appropriate qualitative data, e.g. case studies.
  • Participate in the design and execution of surveys and other assessments.
  • Take responsibility for the logistics and content of semi-annual stakeholder meetings.
  • Coordinate and share learning related to M&E practices with the REGAL-IR project and the Nairobi Program Team.
  • Support the Senior Project Officer with the development of work plans.
    Skills and Qualifications
    Essential
  • University degree in social sciences/other relevant field.
  • At least 3 years’ experience of data collection, analysis and report writing (preferably within an NGO setting).
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Excel and statistical packages (e.g. SPSS).
  • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas.
    Desirable
  • Previous work experience in Marsabit County/Northern Kenya.
  • Knowledge of one of the local languages spoken in Marsabit County.
  • Experience working on education projects and/or with pastoralist communities.
  • Donor reporting.

    3. Community Mobilizer Jobs in Kenya
    Specific Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct community sensitization meetings in targeted communities.
  • Encourage full participation by all community members, paying special attention to women.
  • Assist in recruitment of teachers.
  • Facilitate selection and training of CEC members.
  • Assist CEC and community members and teachers to develop selection criteria and identify pupils to participate in the project.
  • Gather and collate monitoring data and report on findings from field monitoring activities.
  • Work with the M&E Officer to learn how to conduct analysis of the monitoring data.
  • Assist the M&E Officer with the organization of semi-annual stakeholder meetings.
  • Assist the Senior Project Officer and the Cashier/Clerk with other aspects of project implementation as required.
    Skills and Qualifications
    Essential
  • KCSE Certificate.
  • Resident of Marsabit County.
  • At least 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with community members and colleagues.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English.
  • Computer skills.
    Desirable
  • Relevant technical/vocational qualification.
  • Experience working on education projects and/or with pastoralist communities.

    4. Director of Finance and Operations Job
    Specific Roles and Responsibilities
    The Director of Finance and Operations will develop and implement finance and operations systems, protocols and tools for all finance, operations, and administrative functions applicable to the project HQ in Isiolo and field offices in the project counties.
    She/he will be a member of the project Leadership Team in charge of finance and operations policies, procedures, and ensuring compliance with USAID rules and regulations in these areas.
    The Director will liaise with Adeso Finance and Operations Managers at Adeso HQ to ensure compliance with Adeso policies and regulations and to ensure smooth functionality of finance and operations.
    He/she will undertake a number of duties and responsibilities, including:
    Finance
  • Ensure Financial Management in accordance with Adeso and USAID rules and regulations, including strategic management of objectives, resources, and risk;
  • Plan and implement financial policies and systems ensuring consistency, accountability, transparency, viability and integrity in accord with Adeso and USAID accounting principles;
  • Ensure financial accounting records, monitoring, and internal controls;
  • Ensure budget implementation, controls and reporting including forecasts, projections, accruals, funds requests, regular and ad hoc financial reports, variance analyses, and reconciliations;
  • Manage audits of REGAL-IR including consortium partners;
  • Supervise finance personnel;
  • Advise and oversee capacity building within the organization.
    Operations
  • Oversee the implementation of operations including compliance with USAID and Adeso rules and regulations;
  • Ensure procedures for procurement according to Adeso and USAID guidelines;
  • Ensure policies and procedures for inventory, asset management and tracking systems;
  • Oversee program budgets in regard to human resources and recruitment, transport, security, procurement and logistics; 5. Ensure that REGAL-IR liaises with stakeholders regarding security;
  • Ensure timely reporting on operational matters for quarterly and other reports;
  • Ensure capacity building for operational staff as needed.
    Skills and Qualifications
  • A minimum of five(5) years of professional experience in finance management, and operations;
  • Experience in a hardship post, conflict environment, and remote locations preferred;
  • Knowledge of USAID rules and regulations essential;
  • Undergraduate degree in Business Management or Social Sciences or related field preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written);
  • Cross-cultural sensitivity desirable;
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure in a rapidly changing professional environment;
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and other relevant applications;
  • Willingness to undertake extensive travel to field offices.
