Exciting Leadership Opportunity: Managing Director
Our Client, Mercantile
Insurance Company Ltd. is a blue chip insurance company in Kenya licensed to
underwrite both life and non-life business.
Mercantile is a subsidiary
of the Saham Group, a multinational capital holding company operating in
various service industries across Africa and the Middle East and is the largest
insurance group in Africa excluding South Africa.
In order to support and execute
its growth and expansion strategy, Mercantile is seeking to recruit a results driven
individual to the position of Managing Director (MD).
Reporting to the Board of
Directors, the MD will be charged with the provision of strategic direction and
promotion of best management, financial, commercial and operational practices
that will ensure sustainable growth of the business.
Roles and responsibilities
will include:
- Providing leadership in the development and execution
of the company’s strategic plans;
- Ensuring the execution of strategic priorities in order
to achieve agreed financial, customer, and channel metrics;
- Overseeing the development of innovative products for
new and existing clients;
- Ensuring that appropriate commercial and technological
processes and infrastructure are in place for delivery of desired business
objectives;
- Understanding and managing key business risks including
market, insurance, operational, compliance and legislative risks;
- Building effective relationships with key stakeholders,
including but not limited to Boards, Regulators, Shareholders, Statutory
Actuary, Auditors and Industry Bodies;
- Identifying and executing acquisition opportunities to
accelerate the achievement of the business strategy;
- Enforcing a culture of regulatory compliance and good
corporate governance;
- Maintaining a conducive work environment for
attracting, retaining and motivating employees, and
- Diversifying the company’s product and customer mix
towards the retail sector.
Skills and Attributes
- A Bachelors degree in Business, Economics or Finance
from a recognized institution. A Masters degree will be an added
advantage;
- An Advanced Diploma in Insurance (ACII) or other
relevant qualification;
- At least ten (10) years’ experience at senior level in
the Insurance or Financial Services sector;
- Excellent business acumen and awareness of the external
environment;
- Proven track record of leading and developing people,
delivering strategic projects and achieving financial goals; and
- Proficiency in both English and French will be a strong
added advantage.
