Job Summary:  The BOA Legal Manager, Special Assets will be responsible for overseeing all legal aspects of the Bank’s special assets including client reviews, litigation, restructuring, reorganization and debt recovery.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:        
  • Oversee all legal work relating to special assets;
  • Supervise and control all correspondence and recovery documentation on special assets accounts;
  • Manage the Bank’s external lawyers on all matters relating to special assets;
  • Regularly review legal briefs and attend court on behalf of the Bank where necessary;
  • Works closely with Senior Management, prepare and negotiate positions with clients, and represent the Bank in all cases of mediation and arbitration;
  • Lead the drafting and review of contracts and service level agreements (SLA's) between the Bank and third party service providers;
  • Continuously provide briefs to management on the progress of litigation cases, and provide regular, compressive reports on the allocated portfolio and related legal progress;
  • Provide general legal advice to the special assets department and management at large.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The ideal candidate should hold a Law degree from a recognized university. Possession of an MBA or professional qualification will be an added advantage;
  • Be an enrolled advocate of the High Court of Uganda;
  • A minimum of five or more years’ experience in court litigation and debt recovery preferably in the financial industry;
  • Strong knowledge of the relevant legal and financial regulatory framework in Uganda;
  • Excellent ICT skills;
  • Conscientiousness and attention to details;
  • Self-drive and results focus;
  • Self-organization and task effectiveness;
  • Excellent analytical and negotiation skills;
  • Strong communication skills (verbal, written and presentation);
  • Confidence and assertiveness;
  • Good networking skills, tact and diplomacy; with ability to influence key people inside and outside the Bank;
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills;
  • Possess the ability to work under pressure, and exercise excellent judgment.
