humanitarian aid and development cooperation.
For its country office in
Nairobi, as of 1 April 2014, VSF-Suisse is looking for a:

Duties and Responsibilities
The Country Director is a dynamic leader who ensures the achievement of VSF-Suisse’s goals in Kenya and Somalia and who guides the staff with his/her extraordinary commitment.

In close collaboration and
under the supervision of the Programme Manager Greater Horn of Africa based in
Berne, Switzerland, he/she leads the Kenya-Somalia programme.
In particular the Country
Director Kenya will:
- Have the overall responsibility of the VSF-Suisse
project activities of the Office Nairobi.
- Contribute to the further development of VSF-Suisse in
Kenya and Somalia with a strong focus on project acquisition and
institutional fundraising (calls)
- Supervise and guide the programmatic and project work
- Work closely with the Programme Manager Greater Horn of
Africa and the staff in the field, to coordinate the identification of new
projects
- Mobilise and allocate financial resources in the most
efficient and effective manner
- Have the financial responsibility of the
project-portfolio, the final control of the accountancy and the cash flow
along with the control of the monthly and annual financial closures
- Lead and coordinate a team of approximately 50
collaborators
- Strengthen the internal communication and promotion of
dialogue between the field team and the head office in Berne
- Represent the organization with donors, partners and
the general public
- Develop and maintain partnerships and networks with
other stakeholders.
Requirements
- S/he has a long-term experience in the management of a
country programme of an international NGO, sound knowledge in the field of
humanitarian aid and development cooperation and a strong ability to
communicate and network with collaborators, partners, donors and the
general public.
- University degree in political, agricultural,
environmental science, geography, veterinary medicine or any other
relevant field a must
- Further training in management and finance (e.g.
relevant MBA, MAS) a must
- 7 to 10 years experience in the management of an NGO or
a country programme and strong leadership qualities a must
- Proven experience in financial management (budget
control, financial and cash flow planning and control) a must
- Thorough knowledge and experience in planning,
implementing, monitoring and evaluating humanitarian aid and development
programmes and projects in areas such as food security, rural development
and health in Kenya and Somalia a must
- Proven experience in organisational development, change
and/or crisis management along with strong motivation skills a very strong
asset
- Facility in communicating and negotiating with
institutional and private donors (UN, EU) as well as good knowledge of the
donor landscape in Kenya and Somalia
- Experience in working within in a multicultural
environment
- Willingness to make regular field trips
- Mother tongue English or any local Kenyan or Somali
language with a proficient knowledge of English and/or Kiswahili/Somali;
German and French a strong advantage
- Age ideally above 45 years
- Kenyan resident (this position is for local staff only,
no expat compensations).
