DFID/Nike Foundation Assets to Adolescent Girls
Adam Smith International and its consortium partners are seeking an experienced Team Leader for the DFID/Nike Foundation Assets to Adolescent Girls programme (D-ATG). D-ATG aims to deliver high quality technical and financial support to early stage enterprises developing innovative products that support girls’ economic empowerment. Headquartered in Kenya, the programme will run for 5 years and will roll out across East Africa (Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ethiopia) and Asia (Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal).

Adam Smith International would therefore like to invite applications for exceptional candidates who have demonstrated their ability to deliver high-profile multi-country programmes, manage international programme networks and support social enterprises to drive innovation.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership of the programme ensure programme activities deliver effective support to grantees, which ultimately results in girls’ economic empowerment
  • Act as the key focal point for DFID and Nike Foundation, working closely with the DFID secondee
  • Instil a culture of innovation into the programme, drawing from international best practice and operationalizing key strategies and approaches into the programme down to country level
  • Identify and build key networks and partnerships at international and local level in order to secure effective technical assistance, mentoring and financing opportunities for grantees
  • Develop international visibility as the key representative of the programme
  • Responsible for delivering the fundraising objectives of the programme, identifying, building and managing relationships with key corporate and philanthropic donors
  • Manage a core team based in Nairobi, including strategic oversight of M&E, Communications, Marketing, Grant disbursement, and Operational and financial management
  • Oversee development of regional hubs in focus countries, manage country relationship managers to ensure strategic and timely delivery of in-country activities and support to grantees
  • Responsible for the overall financial management including grant disbursement to the project’s grantees
  • Oversee monitoring & evaluation, research, knowledge management and dissemination of the project
Competences:
  • 10+ years’ experience working in private sector development in Africa and Asia
  • Experience leading large/multi-country international donor agency programmes
  • Experience supporting enterprises (from early-stage to multinational corporations) to develop innovative business models to deliver social impact
  • Strong background in gender and economic empowerment
  • Established networks in Kenya
Desirable:
  • Experience and established networks in a number of target countries
  • A demonstrable understanding of the early-stage venture ecosystem in East Africa
  • A demonstrated personal interest in girls’ economic empowerment, and experience developing business models for girls inclusion
  • previous experience with the Nike Foundation
